Meet the artist: Tanya Volansky
I am a maker in a small town in Northeastern PA who has too many hobbies and works too many jobs. I need to stay busy to stay focused and a little overwhelmed to feel productive. I’m never scared to start a new endeavor because I love to learn new processes.
I became obsessed with pottery in college but put it down only to rediscover and newly obsess over it almost 20 years later. There is a neverending amount of knowledge available about ceramics and I don’t think I will ever tire of trying to gather it all.
There is something magical about how clay transforms individually from everyone’s hands. The things that inspire me tend to show themselves in my pieces and looking back on past work I can see reflections of who I was and what I was learning. In this way, making pottery has become a record keeping of my past.
I can’t imagine anything more rewarding than something I built becoming part of your routine and helping you to record your history too.
